Shawnee High School serves a population of approximately 1,300 students. Despite a city-wide poverty rate of close to 25%, the citizens of Shawnee recently passed a bond issue to build Shawnee High School a new, larger library.
Each year the YALSA office receives approximately 1200 newly published books, videos, CDs and audiocassettes, materials that have been targeted primarily towards young adults. Publishers and producers submit copies for selection committees to review and nominate.
