Our Mission

ÂÜÀòÍøÊÓƵ

The Communications, Marketing & Media Relations Office (CMMO) manages the public awareness efforts of the association, delivering key messages to external audiences about the value of libraries and library professionals. CMMO also communicates ALA's key messages through and crisis communications, and offers public relations counsel and editorial services. Tools are also developed and shared with librarians to help advance ALA’s strategic directions.

The campaign started in 1987 as a response to then Secretary of Education William Bennett, who stated, “Let’s have a campaign … Every child should obtain a library card and use it.”
